How to Organise Your Week
Take control of those runaway days
It seems that as we become more successful, our weeks become less organised and filled with everything from client meetings, appointments, board meetings and more. Then, we throw in soccer practice for the kids, dinner dates with friends and you can’t forget to visit your mum occasionally. With everything that we have to get done in our week, we often find ourselves searching for more days to add to our busy schedule.
Unfortunately, there are only 7 days in a week and we have to use them to our advantage. That means planning your schedule and filling up every available time slot until there is no time left to do anything for ourselves. This can lead to burn out and it will make us less productive in the long run. To avoid burn out and to be able to get everything done that we need to, we have to be better organised. How can we do that? Keep reading and we will show you how to make the most out of your week and still get everything done that you need to.
Prepare to get organised
Find a quiet spot, put on your favourite music and pour yourself a drink. This will help reduce your stress and enable you to think more clearly when creating your weekly schedule.
List all the tasks you need to accomplish over the next week
Create a list of all of the tasks that you need to accomplish. Prioritise your list by category including work, family and social.
Schedule the time that you will need to accomplish each task. This will help you schedule what will fit and what won’t onto your calendar or planner.
Get a planner or calendar
Purchase a calendar or planner that you can use to write down everything you need to get done on. Be sure to find one that gives you enough room to write everything down including any important details of meetings, appointments and other scheduled tasks.
Cut those tasks that don't fit into your calendar
There will be some tasks that you simply cannot fit into your weekly schedule. These tasks should be scheduled for the next week.
Check your plan first thing in the morning
Every morning, check your schedule and see what you have planned. This will ensure that you achieve your goals and complete your scheduled tasks.
Review, review, review
At the end of each day, review what you accomplished and if there is anything that you didn’t get done, try to reschedule it for the same week if possible. This will keep you from having too many tasks the following week.
One of the best ways that you can stay organised and get more done is to purchase a good quality planner or calendar as this will ensure that you have a place to keep your thoughts, schedule important meetings and tasks and check your week at a glance.
